Is This What The iPhone Is Going To Look Like?

The latest iGossip is that big changes are a-coming (isn't there always gossip?). These photos are the work of design student Imran Taylor from Manila in the Philippines so they may not be 100 percent accurate but he's based them on the rumours floating about and it's nice to see what the iPhone 8 might look like...

It's all in the name

The rumour is that the updated iPhone isn't going to be called iPhone 8 - they're apparently going to break with tradition and call it iPhone X. And it's for a good reason - it's 10 years since Steve Jobs brought out the first iPhone so Apple wants to do something special to mark the occasion. And X is 10 in Roman numerals, so it's pretty classy and subtle, if true.

Although what's the next one called after that? XI? And then after that, XII and then XIII and then XIV and XV...it's just going to be confusing. There's a reason why the Roman Empire failed and it's mostly to do with their numeral system. (That's a joke, don't quote me).

No Home Button

Apple hasn't done any major design changes for a while - so the news that they were taking away the headphone jack really angered people.

But the big tech company is going one further if rumours are true - it's taking away the home button. Um...what? That's right, they're allegedly doing away with the home button. But how will that work? No word on that yet.

Goodbye aluminium, hello glass

The case is set to be made out of glass - like they did for iPhone 4. They're also making the iPhone skinnier than usual, but Apple always does that. Will it be heavier if it's made of glass? The screen will be wider than usual - with much smaller bezels - and the edges with be smooth and curved. All-in-all, little updates but not a huge design shift.

Dual Camera

It's about time! Consider how snap happy we all are these days it makes sense. With a bigger camera, we'll be able to take wide angle shots and there's even a rumour that we might be able to take 3D photos. Interesting, very interesting.

Laser Beams

Not sure if Dr Evil had input with this, but rumour is the latest iPhone with iPhone X the rumour is it will shoot a laser beam into your face! But not to kill you, don't worry, it will just scan your face for security purposes. At least you'll never have problems when you accidentally put in the wrong code when you're drunk again.

When will it be released?

Well, Apple always releases its handsets in September, so there's no reason to think that it's going to break with tradition on that one so we have eight months to wait. Argh, too long!

What do we think?

Reactions on the Internet have been... mixed.

Nina Hreczuk commented on Facebook: "Curved edges? Hasn't Samsung done this already?" Well to be fair, Nina, Androids have copied iPhones for years so really it was only a matter of time before the tables turned, if all these reports are to be taken at face value.

Some people are pissed that there's no home button. Zaki Cher wrote that if there's no home button, Zaki ain't buying a new iPhone. Well that's Apple told.

Grace Proudley wrote: "I do not need a new iPhone. I do not need a new iPhone. I do not need a new iPhone. I do not need a new iPhone. I do not need a new iPhone. I do not need a new iPhone. Shut up and take my money!"

Grace is obviously not put off by the reported lack of home button.
