UK’s ‘tallest and fastest rollercoaster’ set to open very soon

UK’s ‘tallest and fastest rollercoaster’ set to open very soon

The rollercoaster will beat a record held by the same park

Nothing says the school holidays and sunny months like standing in queues to zip around the air screaming your lungs out.

A trip to the theme park just seems like such a spring/summer activity, when you and your mates try and go on as many rides before the rain comes out and ruins the vibe.

And as the winter is finally nearing an end, the UK’s ‘tallest and fastest rollercoaster’ is set to open very soon.

While you might be more of an Alton Towers type of person, or perhaps a Blackpool Pleasure Beach regular, you’ll have to head to Thorpe Park to experience this whopper ride.

The UK theme park shared an exciting update on the progress of the upcoming Hyperia rollercoaster yesterday (7 March).

After months of construction and over ‘5,292 man hours to assemble’ so far, the final piece of track was lifted into place.

This 92nd piece of Hyperia was lifted up by a 500-tonne crane to complete the very, very tall rollercoaster.

Once it’s all completed, Thorpe Park claims it will boast the ‘tallest, fastest and most weightless’ rollercoaster in the UK.

The track is a mega 995.4m long and reaches unbelievable heights of 236ft.

Hyperia is ‘set to push the limits of excitement’ as it racks up full-throttle speeds of over 80mph.

The ride is set to open this year.

Currently, the tallest rollercoaster in the UK is The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach towering at a giant 230ft.

Thorpe Park is already home to the current fastest rollercoaster in the UK - Stealth.

With riders sat in car-shaped seats, the coaster propels riders from 0 to 80mph in less than two seconds.

The theme park’s divisional director, Neil Poulter, told BBC Radio Surrey that the new ride will give thrill-seekers a ‘weightlessness feel’.

He explained that riders will experience ‘the feeling like you’re slightly coming out of your seat’ when they take on Hyperia.

Now that's high.

Poulter added: "We are excited for thrill-seekers to be able to experience Hyperia which will be an amazing addition to our other record-breaking rides."

Instagram users said the ride already looks ‘amazing’ as they ‘can’t wait’ to ride it.

Another put: “WHO’S READY TO RIDE!? Whoop!”

And someone else added: “Can’t wait to ride this beast.”

There’s not currently a set date available for when Hyperia will open but the site says it will be launched this year.

Thorpe Park is currently closed for the season but reopens on 23 March.
