British Airways passenger who was thought to be asleep on flight was actually dead

A woman who was presumed to be sleeping on an aeroplane actually turned out to be dead, having suffered a suspected heart attack during the flight.

The 73-year-old woman was a passenger on a British Airways flight between London’s Heathrow Airport and the French city of Nice, but is believed to have died whilst the flight was in the air.

Passengers on the flight – which set off on Thursday – noticed that something didn’t seem quite right when they landed at their destination in the south of France and the woman didn’t move to get off the plane.

As others got up to disembark from their flight, the woman remained where she was, before the concerns mounted when some passengers attempted to rouse the woman, with no success.

That led to the passengers alerting the flight crew aboard the plane, who in turn called the emergency services.

However, when the French paramedics arrived they were unable to revive the woman, according to French publication The Connexion.

The woman was then later declared dead at around 10:00pm local time.

It has been reported that the woman died after suffering a heart attack at some point during the journey.

According to the Daily Mail, British Airways has confirmed that ‘sadly a customer passed away on a flight from London Heathrow to Nice’.

The statement added: “Our thoughts are with the customer's family at this difficult time.

“We are unable to provide or confirm further details about the passenger.”

The woman’s identity, or the exact circumstances that led to her death, have not yet been made public.

A report in French media suggested that the woman was a British citizen, but that also has yet to be confirmed.

In June this year, a British man died aboard a flight to New York after suffering an asthma attack and dropping his inhaler.

It was reported that the flight was around 45 minutes from its final destination when 25-year-old Shimon Brauer, from London, fell unconscious after panicking an dropping his inhaler.

Flight crew attempted to treat him with oxygen, but didn’t know that his airways had closed as a result of the asthma attack, before attempting CPR.

Unfortunately, they were unable to save his life.

Brauer was travelling over to the USA to volunteer at a summer camp, Jewish News reported.

He was from Stamford Hill, in North London.

A friend said: “Shimon was always happy, dancing and smiling.

“He really was a good boy,

“Everything he said and did came from the truth of his heart.”
