But every time he does something for a fan, or indeed a stranger who doesn't really know who he is, it doesn't get any less brilliant.
He recently sent one of his army of followers a typewriter with a personal message after she created a scrapbook of his characters, and now he's helped someone else to win a bet.
Zena Gopal, from Toronto, Canada, made a wager with her friends that she could get a headshot of the Sully actor.
The Canadian sent him a photo and requested his picture, but in his reply he used her image to take a selfie, and then sent it back with the question, 'Does this count as a headshot?'

"It made me laugh. It really made my day. It was just really cool to see that he reads his fan mail," Zena told CBC before admitting she was 'totally floored' by the gesture.
Tom Hanks, what a guy.
