A doctor has claimed that a patient has become pregnant from anal sex.

Commonly known as an exit only orifice, the back passage is a mystery to most of us - but now it is even more so.

Whether you dabble in sphincter play or not, it is always important to take the necessary precautions. Water based lubricant is a must.

Dr Brian Steixner MD, Director of the Institute of Men's Health at Jersey Urology Group in Atlantic City, said that the case is a result of a condition called termed cloaca.

This is quite a rare condition when a female foetus' bladder, vagina and rectum do not develop properly and instead intestinal, urinal and reproductive functions are all performed from the same orifice.

Surprised by the case, Steixner told Men's Health: "We knew about her condition, and we had followed her for a decade. After doing a whole bunch of X-rays, we determined that she got pregnant from having anal sex.

"The obgyns couldn't figure out a way to effectively deliver the baby through the rectum safely. So she had a C-section."

Earlier in her life, the woman was referred for surgery, a standard treatment for cloaca cases. Unfortunately, the surgery didn't go to plan and resulted in her uterus being wrongly connected to her rectum.

Dr Steixner has said that there is no need for anyone to worry about something similar happening to them, telling the Independent: "This case is one in a billion and the rarest of the rare. I'm not sure it should be a big issue for women generally."

The patient's baby was delivered safely.
