"Send nudes pls x"

You'd probably hope that 'send nudes pls' was the first text message ever sent, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to piss on your bonfire.

Back in 1992, it was an unfortunate time when mobile phones didn't have the capacity to send picture messages, and so texting was pretty boring.

Instead of full blown conversations, which today's youth will have via text, messaging was used for things like 'fish 4 tea x', 'dnt 4get 2 see ur nan t2nite x' and 'ur nans luvley'.

Unfortunately, the first text ever sent was as boring as that.

Neil Papworth, a 22-year-old test engineer for Sema Group, which is now called Airwide Solutions, sent the first text to his colleague Richard Jarvis on 3rd December, 1992.

The text read: 'Merry Christmas'.

I know. There's not even a joke. Not even a hint of a fucking meme.

Neil sent the text from his personal computer to the Vodafone network to Richard's Orbitel 901 mobile - one of those bricks that Zack Morris had on Saved By The Bell.

Since then, many years have past us by and texting has become the main way people stay in contact.

It has also, however, been tarnished by the amount of shithousery that goes on in group chats across the world.
