Europe has a new best beach and Brits can fly there for £15

Europe's best beach has been named in a brand new list of the top 50 across the world - and Brits can fly to it for less than £15.

The new list, put together by travel website The World's 50 Best Beaches, has been released today (30 April).

The list was compiled after speaking to more than 1,000 journalists, editors, bloggers, influencers and agencies.

And in naming Europe's new top beach, it's also ranked it as the second best on the entire planet.

Last year's best European beach comes with a deadly warning. But for 2024, it doesn't even make the top 50 list.

Timing couldn't be more perfect with the new list if you're still in need of a summer break, with flights to the European top spot beginning at £14.99.

Tine Holst, Co-Founder of The World's 50 Best Beaches, said: "Our 2024 list is a reflection of the countless days spent by our judges, Beach Ambassadors and World’s 50 Best team discovering beaches around the world.

"Our list will help inspire travellers to leave the beaten path behind and enjoy the most stunning and relaxing beaches on earth."

The list was put together after months of consultation, with the top beaches voted that by those spoken to.

As for the best beach in Europe, it is located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea off of the west coast of mainland Italy.

Enter Cala Mariolu, on the eastern edges of the Italian island of Sardinia.

Just don't eat the island's delicacy, dubbed the 'world's most dangerous cheese'.

"While Sardinia has many spectacular beaches, Cala Mariolu stands out for its striking beauty everywhere you turn and the sense of privacy and adventure it offers," the experts say.

"Located along the eastern coast of Sardinia, it is accessible only by boat or hiking trails, which ensures that visitors can experience the area's natural beauty in a very personal way."

They add: "The smaller cove, framed by rugged cliffs and lush greenery, ensures beachgoers enjoy amazing views from every angle, whether on land or in the water.

"Many also hike the surrounding cliffs to see the beach in all its glory and capture breathtaking views from above. From the top, the views are extraordinary, showcasing the water's varying shades, from deep sapphire to bright aquamarine, which contrast beautifully with the pristine white pebble beach below."

The average temperature in the Cala Mariolu area of Sardinia ranges from 22 to 30 degrees Celsius, from May to August. It's still warm in autumn if you're looking to avoid the busy months are take advantage of cheaper fees, with average temperatures in September sitting at 27C.

Ryanair offers flights to Sardinia's two airports, Alghero and Cagliari.

Both flights are to London Stansted Airport, with Alghero's costing from £14.99 and the Cagliari flights starting at £21.99.
