With 99 million subscribers and counting, PewDiePie is the king of YouTube. He's already the most successful gaming streamer in history, but he's on a mission hit the 100 million mark. PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, took to his popular channel to try and hit the milestone.
If you've never heard of the streamer before, then he's a Sweden-born gamer who's well known for his quirky style of commentary which is so well-liked that he has more followers than the entire population of Germany. In fact, he's so influential that he was named one of "The World's 100 Most Influential People" by Time magazine. When his channel started, he focused on doing 'Let's Play' videos consisting of him giving a running commentary over games that he was playing at the time. His success has meant that he now covers a variety of topics, usually reacting to things that are trending.

During an episode of 'Last Week I Asked You', where he comments on user-submitted content, he hinted that he'd do a much-wanted 12-hour long Minecraft stream if he hit 100 million subscribers.
This isn't the first time he's promised a Minecraft marathon. Back in July, PewDiePie said he'd do one of his videos received over two million likes in 24 hours. It turned out that not enough people cared about it as he was unable to reach his target. However, fans have now changed their tune and are now desperate for it to happen.
The 'PewDiePieSubmissions' subreddit is full of references to it. Reddit user 'meme_lordxd420' posted a meme that references Thanos from the Avengers film. It reads: "12 hour Minecraft Livestream at 100 mil. A small price to pay for 1,500,000 9-year-olds"

It's not like PewDiePie needs to hit 100 million subscribers. The Swedish streamer reportedly rakes in nearly $8 million (£6.5m) in monthly revenue, including more than $6.8 million (£5.6m) from selling merchandise and more than $1.1 million (£905k) in advertising, according to the study. To add to his income, PewDiePie switched from Twitch to DLive to the tune of $15.5 million (£12.8m). He's also mega-popular on Instagram too. He recently uploaded a photograph of himself skinny dipping in the ocean which has attracted over 2.2 million likes. Now there's a confidence boost.
Whether or not the 12-hour stream will become a reality remains to be seen, but PewDiePie looks set to reach 100 million subscribers very soon.
