It may be nearly a year and a half away but ticket sales for the hugely popular musical Hamilton's visit to Dublin have smashed records as they went on general sale this morning with over 74,000 tickets sales already.
First appearing on Broadway in 2015, the sung-and-rapped-through musical tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and has gone on to earn universal acclaim and countless awards.
The musical will play a nine-week season in Ireland from September the 17th 2024 till November the 16th and is expected to sell tens of thousands of tickets by the end of today both online and at the box office at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre at the Grand Canal in Dublin.

Speaking to the Irish Times ahead of the box office opening this morning, the theatre’s general manager Stephen Faloon said “Theatre is back. This is another sign of that.”
He added, “When they’re gone, they’re absolutely gone.”
The cheapest tickets available go from €36.50 and the most expensive reach up to €90. School group tickets are also available at €25. Prices are extremely reasonable compared to their peak of $600 in New York.
The production is currently putting together the cast and crew for the tour which plays in Manchester and Edinburgh before arriving in Dublin. Remarkably, over 3,000 performers applied to audition for the show.
Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton has revolutionised theatre musicals with a heavy amount of hip hop, as well as R&B, pop, and soul, alongside the traditional-style show tunes. After its release in 2015, it received a record-breaking 16 nominations and won 11 awards, including Best Musical, at the 70th Tony Awards before going on to win the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Today, the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre put on a show of its own for the die-hard fans who were among the first to buy tickets today. It ran spot prizes for those in the queue, had a DJ playing popular Hamilton tracks and had a special breakfast treat for the first 150 people queueing!
The fans responded with the first arriving as early as 6.30 am with over 80 people gathering as the box office opened its doors.
It is estimated roughly half of the total tickets for the tour are sold with the first few days completely selling out early this morning. While the fans who queued this morning still have a while to wait before they see the production, Hamilton fever has well and truly gripped the nation well ahead of the highly-anticipated tour.
