Celine Song's semi-autobiographical film has garnered a host of fans across social media.

Greta Lee is being hailed for the ‘affecting’ acting skills she displayed during the final moments of her new starring role.

The Russian Doll and Morning Show actor has been turning heads recently and fans across social media have praised her for her latest performance.

The 40-year-old Californian native is starring in Celine Song’s directorial debut, which was released earlier this autumn via A24.

Past Lives is the film in question, but it’s one particularly rousing scene that has captured the attention of the masses. You can watch it below:

The official synopsis for Past Lives reads: "Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are wrested apart after Nora's family emigrates from South Korea.

"Twenty years later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront notions of love and destiny."

In the final emotional moments of the film, Nora - played by Lee - walks away from Hae Sung - played by Teo Yoo - her childhood sweetheart who has just travelled to New York to meet her again after more than 20 years apart.

After saying their farewells, Nora walks back to her flat in silence before breaking down on the shoulder of her boyfriend, Arthur (John Magaro).

The powerful, quiet scene is simply heartbreaking, and fans across social have been showering Lee and Song with praise.

The poignant scene in Past Lives has caused a stir online.

After watching the movie, one Letterboxd user wrote: “Sometimes people find the love of their life but they’re not meant to be together. It’s sad but it’s life.”

Elsewhere, an X user wrote: “Just watched Past Lives and that f**king ending scene sheesh.”

“Damn Past Lives, why do movies ending always got me feeling empty inside???" said a second.

"I love the backstory of the movie (sic) you know two close people going on different paths and then meeting again, also I really thought it was gonna be a romance between the two characters."

And film writer Zoe Rose Bryant wrote: “This is not only some of the most affecting acting I’ve seen all year, but also probably ever.”

Another gave an insight into the scene itself and said: “Celine Song said she was thinking about how timelines decrease left, increase right. That’s why she had Nora and Hae Sung walk left: it represented them walking into the past. Then Nora back to the right, into her present and future.”

Greta Lee has already won an award for her portrayal of Nora.

Past Lives had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January and has already picked up nominations and wins from a slew of awards ceremonies.

At the Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Awards, Lee picked up an award for Best Actress while Song was given hers for Best Screenplay.

The picture is also up for contention at Film Fest Ghent in the Best Film category.

If you didn’t manage to catch Past Lives in theatres this autumn, UK fans will be able to rent and digitally purchase the movie from 23 October.
