Tom Hardy Fuels 'James Bond' Rumours By Refusing To Talk About It

"I can’t possibly comment on that one..."

Tom Hardy has fuelled speculation that he may be looking to step into 007's shoes after refusing to discuss the possibility.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, he and the interviewer were chinwagging about how good it would be to get director Christopher Nolan to take over the franchise. Hardy has obviously worked with Nolan a few times, most famously when he played Eames in Inception and Bane in The Dark Night Rises. Hardy has spoken openly about his admiration for the director, so was clearly thrilled at the interviewer's suggestion.

"Oh, wow, Chris would be amazing!" he said. "Wow, that would be cool. That would be so cool."

Clearly, the interviewer jumped on this answer - was Hardy throwing his hat into the ring to take over the role from Daniel Craig?!

In response, Hardy said: "There's a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting that if you talk about it you're automatically out of the race. So I can't possibly comment on that one!

"But Chris Nolan, what a fantastic director for a Bond movie. Because Daniel [Craig] is so good, and what [Sam] Mendes and Barbara [Broccoli] have done has been so impressive, that it would be a very hard reimagination to follow.

"I wonder what the next instalment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that's a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound - again."

Honestly, I can't think of anyone I'd rather see as Bond. Although, there was a point where Idris Elba seemed to be a contender, and that would be cool as fuck. The rumours got so big that Anthony Horowitz, who has penned Bond books, commented. However it was quite a controversial comment, as the author claimed Elba was 'too street' to play Bond. He eventually apologised for his comments.

Others in the office would like it if Craig stayed on, while some others would like to see Michael Fassbender take over.

Hardy is currently starring in a BBC drama series called Taboo, which is set in 1814.
