Valar Morghulis. In Valyrian that means 'all men must die'. Unfortunately, that is also true of the TV series the phrase comes from, Game of Thrones.
While it has been rumoured for a long time that the show's creators David Benioff and D.B.Weiss want to keep the epic fantasy to within eight seasons, it hasn't really been confirmed. Until now.
HBO's brand spanking new programming chief Casey Bloys has been in talks with the Thrones boys hoping to convince them to take it to ten seasons but he hasn't been able to budge them.
He revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills: "Yes, I think they [Benioff and Weiss] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do.
"If I could get them to do more, I would take ten seasons, but we want to take their lead with what they can do and what the best version of the show is."
RIP Game of Thrones. I'll just give you a moment to process that information.
...
OK, we good to go?
Bloys also confirmed that although there are no concrete plans as of yet, there have been talks of a spinoff/prequel series to Game of Thrones.
So there's always that.
Two more seasons of Game of Thrones as we know and love it, and the potential for some spinoffs. Excellent.
