WARNING: SPOILER ALERT! THIS IS NOT A DRILL. IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED EPISODE 10 OF SEASON 6, DO NOT READ ON. STOP. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, SO NO CRYING IN THE COMMENTS. GOT IT? OKAY, LET'S GO.

Holy shitballs. So I got up an hour early to watch the Game of Thrones finale this morning and my head is still battered. Tommen is roadkill, Margaery has been blown to smithereens, Cersei is the queen and Jon Snow is the confirmed son of Lyanna Stark. That's right. R+L=J, people! Or does it?

The theory, which has been a hot topic between fans for years, goes that Jon Snow is not actually Ned Stark's bastard son. He is in fact the son of Lyanna Stark (Ned's sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen (Daenerys' older brother). If true, it means Jon is a Targaryen and he therefore has a claim to the Iron Throne.

In the final episode, Bran Stark, through his three-eyed raven powers, watched his father find Lyanna covered in blood in the Tower of Joy after giving birth to a son. As she drew her final breaths, she begged Ned to take care of her newborn and keep quiet about the identity of her baby daddy.

However, she whispered the whole thing into his ear so we still don't know for sure if the father is Rhaegar. Damn you, pesky show creators. Gonna have to get Jezza in for a DNA test.

What we do know is that although Jon is not Ned's bastard son, he does indeed have Stark blood flowing through his veins after all. The poor bugger. His life would have been a lot easier if he'd have learned of this small little fact when he was younger. Catelyn may not have been quite so vile to him too. Instead, he knows nothing.

However, that didn't stop fans of the books and show from taking to social media to celebrate the 'confirmed' theory.

Now we just have to sit tight and wait around 300 days for season seven to come out.
