Dan Bilzerian says there’s a point where money no longer buys happiness

Dan Bilzerian says there’s a point where money no longer buys happiness

He says the things that make him happiest don't cost a lot

Dan Bilzerian says there comes a point when having piles of cash doesn’t bring happiness and that he gets more joy out of things that don’t cost a penny.

The 42-year-old says he’s worth around $350 million and is known for his OTT, decadent lifestyle, but insists that it's the simple things in life that mean the most.

In an interview, the poker player explained that while money has its advantages, it doesn't automatically bring happiness.

“A lot of people equate money to happiness and it’s not, it’s more freedom,” he said.

“What people don’t understand is that once your basic needs are met, you don’t get incremental happiness from more money.

“You do for a short period of time. If you’re a $100,000 a year guy and I bump you to $200,000, you’re going to be happy but that’s not going to last. You’re going to get used to $200,000.

“My problem is there’s nothing that I buy that brings me happiness. I bought a Ferrari - I wasn’t happy for more than 24 hours. I put a hundred miles on the f**king thing in a year and then got rid of it.”

The millionaire says money isn't the key to happiness.

When asked what made him happy he said: “Surfting. Hanging with my friends. The s**t that doesn’t cost money, if I’m being honest with you.”

So there you go.

Having said that, Bilzerian has previously said becoming a billionaire is on his bucket list.

In an interview with Adam22, he was asked what was left for him to do in life, to which Bilzerian replied: “I want to become a billionaire. That’s the last real thing on my bucket list.”

He elaborated: “It’s not really about the money, because in fact I’ll probably just give most of it away.

“Or maybe I’ll even downgrade [my life]. Actually that was one of the things I wanted to do if I became a billionaire - go work at Walmart for like six months, live in a s****y apartment and just like completely reset.

“I’ve been meaning to do that for a while. That’s kind of the last mountain that I want to climb.”

Dan Bilzerian said in the podcast he has had sex nine times in one day before.

Bilzerian went on: “And then I don’t ever want to do anything for money. I want to just only do things that I want to do.

“Because right now I’m still motivated by money. I’m still trying to get to that f*****g billion dollars. I’m doing s**t that I don’t wanna do, I’m posting it on social media because it’s good for my brand.”

He concluded: “When I get to that point I’ll never [have to] do s**t I don’t want to do. I’ll never do anything because I want to make more money, or like, or cultivate a relationship that will help me with this.

“Just none of it. I’m just gonna do things that make me happy. That’ll be a big milestone for me.”
