Britney Spears' husband Sam Asghari breaks silence as he confirms marriage is over

Asghari released a statement following reports he'd filed for divorce from Britney Spears

Britney Spears' husband, Sam Asghari, has broken his silence on reports he's filed for divorce from the singer.

News of Spears and Asghari's split first arrived earlier this week, when sources claimed the famous pair, who married in June 2022, were no longer living together.

Just a few hours later it emerged that Asghari had filed for divorce, with people familiar with the matter alleging that he's now fighting Spears on the prenup they signed before they tied the knot.

One insider told Page Six Asghari is 'threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid', though Asghari's rep, Brandon Cohen, insisted that isn't the case.

“There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos," Cohen said. “However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be.”

In the wake of the reports about their relationship, Asghari took to Instagram last night (17 August) to try and set the record straight.

In a post shared to his story, he wrote: "After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.

"S**t happens. Asking for privacy seems rediclulous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful."

Spears and Asghari first met in 2016 when they were both working on the set of Spears' 'Slumber Party' music video, and Asghari went on to pop the question in 2021.

After his proposal, Spears shared a video of herself and her new fiancé and wrote: "I can’t f**king believe it."

The 'Oops I Did It Again' singer is yet to speak out on the end of her relationship, though she's still been active on Instagram.

Yesterday, Spears shared a picture of herself smiling while riding a horse and declared she was 'buying a horse soon'.

This morning, she uploaded a picture of a piece of artwork which showed two people looking at a bottle in which a third, small person was trapped.

Alongside the image, Spears wrote: "How do you read this ??? It’s interesting !!! I see it as a message in a bottle !!! Or a baby who needs to get out !!! They whisper the poison like in Alice In Wonderland and they wait to see if they have the cure !!! Wise birds know who they are."

LADbible has contacted representatives for Spears for comment.
