Secret word cabin crew use to signal when a passenger is attractive

Secret word cabin crew use to signal when a passenger is attractive

If you hear this on your next flight, take it as a compliment

Flight attendants are always super busy, but they still manage to find time to have some fun while working, and it's all thanks to code words.

With not much time to spare in between providing safety instructions, dishing out refreshments and ensuring all passengers are comfortable, cabin crew have got creative with the ways in which they communicate while flying.

It's been revealed that flight attendants have managed to find a way to let their colleagues know if there's a good-looking passenger on-board - and it's all down to one code word.

An anonymous cabin crew member previously opened up about what codes UK plane staff use on the online forum cabincrew.com, revealing a subtle inside joke that lets fellow staff know about an attractive passenger.

Staff play a simple game when flights have landed and they wave goodbye to each passenger.

The rules for the game are simple: every time a cabin crew member sees a passenger they think is attractive, they say 'Cheerio', while keeping a straight face.

The little-known game understandably only works when airline passengers are exiting the aircraft, as staff then congregate at the door to wave them off.

Each person is usually greeted with a cheery 'Thanks!' as they leave, but if you get a 'Cheerio!' it could be your lucky day.

"There's the cheerio game you can play when passengers disembark When you're standing there going 'buh-bye, thank you, take care' etc when you see someone you fancy, you say 'cheerio,'" the flight attendant explained.

They added: "You need to do it with a buddy and the challenge is to keep a straight face."

'Cheerio' isn't the only word to watch out for, as other flight attendants have lifted the lid on the code words used at their airline.

A flight attendant called LJ previously revealed the typical contents of a 'Cockpit Convo' between cabin crew, sharing how her colleagues sneakily flag that they fancy someone on the plane - and it's very discreet.

During an episode of the Confessions on the Fly podcast in 2019, LJ said she would ask her fellow flight attendants 'what they wanted for dinner tonight'.

She explained: "And you would say 'Italian' or this or that. But we were really talking about the dudes coming on the aircraft.

"So we would have a code of like, 'No, I'm not really hungry for that' or when somebody hot was coming on I'd be like, 'Oh yeah I'll definitely go out for that tonight'.

"When somebody came on who was really really cute, I was like, 'Oh yeah I definitely want whatever it was - Italian - for the night.'"
