He was one of America's most prolific killers of the 20th century and brutally murdered ten people over a 20-year period. The BTK killer, arrested in 2005, even managed to conceal his crimes it from his nearest and dearest.
Dennis Rader's daughter, Kerri Rawson, has had to deal with for people asking how she didn't realise her own dad was a serial killer.

In her book, A Serial Killer's Daughter: My Story of Faith, Love, and Overcoming, Kerri recalls one particular night in 1985, when she was just six-years-old, that would stay with her forever.
The New York Post reports she writes in the book: "It stormed that night. I was scared. Thunder rattles our home - sometimes the house shakes. I crawled into bed with Mom.
"I wouldn't have if Dad was home. Slept on his side of the bed. Did that sometimes when he was gone. I only remember that night because our neighbour lady went missing."
Their neighbour would be just one of Dennis' victims, as Kerri discovered while going through her father's things after his arrest.

The BTK killer would keep small mementos from his murder victims, such as women's underwear - and even kept a note of his of his next planned kill jotted down on the back of one of his business cards.
On the 30th anniversary of his first kill, Dennis started communicating with the world again as the BTK- thriving off the publicity.
It was a horrifying moment when she came across a 911 call made by the BTK and she recognised the voice to be her dad.
She writes: "Through the static, in seizing fear, I recognised my dad's voice - younger, but him. Everything I'd ever known, loved, believed was falling down around me. My whole life was a lie - from before I was born."

Kerri did write to her father following the harrowing discovery to say: "We still love you. We love the husband, father and man we know with all our hearts. We understand there is something seriously and deeply wrong with . . . you."
Dennis sent a simple response to his daughter: "I do have some serious problems, and I do need help on them. Need your prayers and thoughts on that."
