Greta Thunberg Says Trump's Pledge To Help Plant A Trillion Trees Is Not Enough

Donald Trump says America will join the One Trillion Trees initiative, which aims to plant so many trees throughout the world to help combat the effects of climate change.

It's thought that more trees on the planet will help suck up more carbon dioxide and inevitably lead to a cleaner earth.

But it seems like the US President's commitment at the World Economic Forum wasn't welcomed by everyone.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg thought the idea of more trees in the world was good, but she said continuing to use things like oil and coal aren't helping.

She said: "We're not telling you to offset your emissions by paying someone to plant trees in somewhere like Africa, while at the same time forests like the Amazon are being slaughtered at an infinitely higher rate.

"Planting trees is good of course, but it's nowhere near enough of what is needed and it cannot replace real mitigation.

"My generation will not give up without a fight. The effects are clear but they are still too uncomfortable for you to address. You just leave it because you think it's too depressing

"Our house is still on fire. Your inaction is fuelling the flames. And we are telling you to act as if you loved your children above all else."

Mr Trump received an absolutely rapturous applause when he announced the United States would join the tree initiative.

But the American leader decried against activists like Ms Thunberg at the annual event in Davos, Switzerland. He called them 'the perennial prophets of doom' who are trying to predict an 'apocalypse'.

He added: "They are the errors of yesterday's fortune-tellers and we have them and I have them and they want to see us do badly, but we don't let that happen."

Mr Trump said that in order for the world to 'embrace the possibilities of tomorrow' we have to reject the sayings of people like Greta.

The US President and Greta have been involved in a tit for tat since last year. Donald Trump certainly wasn't pleased when Ms Thunberg was named TIME Magazine's Person of the Year, with the leader saying she needed to 'chill' and work on her 'anger management'.

Greta replied with a classic Twitter troll by changing her bio section to 'A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old-fashioned movie with a friend'.
