Army Helps Evacuate 60 Husky Sled Dogs From Bushfire Ravaged Area

The army has rescued dozens of husky sled dogs after they were trapped in the aftermath of a bushfire.

Brett Hadden and around 60 of his dogs have been stranded in a Victorian fire zone after the military revealed they wouldn't be able to take the animals to safety via helicopter.

Thankfully, help has arrived in the shape of army trucks, which loaded the animals onto the back and allowed them to get out.

"Evacuation again! This time by Army Truck with driver Soldier Travis... Big thanks for taking our huskies to the coast," Hadden wrote on Facebook.

Chinook helicopters have been able to rescue about 50 people from the Omeo region over the past few days, but they aren't equipped to take animals.

As a result, Brett has been camping in a sleeping bag with his dogs until help came.

Mr Hadden has told 7News: "I would love to evacuate, but I've got too many animals. They know what's going on, but as long as I'm here, they're okay."

He explained how the fire front swept through the region but his home is still standing. His dogs help him in the alpine areas during the winter and he said there's no way he's going to abandon them after working with them for so many years.

The whole crew was thankfully evacuated just before the fire danger spiked.

Hot, dry and windy conditions have been fuelling concerns of more bushfires today across New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

But if you thought the evacuation of husky sled dogs was good news, wait till you hear about the residents in Victoria's Mallacoota.

Residents fled their homes early in the morning on December 31 and ran to the beach under a black and red morning sky.

Some have been evacuated from the area since, however thousands remain stranded in the town.

While a big proportion of them won't be leaving the area any time soon, they've been given one of the best gifts imaginable: beer.

The Navy has helped deliver an emergency supply of 3,000 litres of beer to the Mallacoota Hotel.

They're being gifted with 20 kegs of VB and Carlton Draught, three pallets of VB stubbies and 36 cases of Strongbow and Great Northern. Carlton United Breweries also chucked in an extra four kegs of VB for free to keep them running.
