Gogglebox viewers confused after show makes major change for the first time since series began

Did you notice that Gogglebox had made a major change?

Gogglebox viewers were left baffled earlier in the week when they spotted a huge change to the show.

The programme, which has been running for over a decade, decided to switch things up, leaving fans confused.

If you're a regular Gogglebox fan, then you'll know that the usual theme tune to the show is 'Perfect World' by Kodaline.

But on Friday (April 26), fans couldn't believe their ears when they noticed something totally different at the start of the show.

Instead of the usual track, the latest episode featured a slow rendition of the song, which included soft piano notes instead.

Now, you might think this isn't too much of a big deal, but some viewers were left believing that they were 'hearing things'.

One person asked: "Why have they changed Gogglebox theme tune, totally threw me off."

A second added: "What's with the music?" while a third commented: "New version #Gogglebox theme?"

"Is the theme tune different or am I hearing things?" asked a fourth.

While a fifth commenter hit the nail on the head, writing: "Think the new theme tune is to promote the return of the Piano on Channel 4."

It's simply a temporary change as it is designed to celebrate the new second series of The Piano starting on Sunday (28 April).

The show, which is hosted by Claudia Winkleman, follows several pianists who perform in public across the UK - and the first season received quite a bit of praise, The Independent reports.

It had been announced before the show that there would be a slight change.

Steve Garrigan from the band Kodaline had rearranged the song to include a piano melody, with other Channel 4 shows also set to adjust their theme tunes in the coming week.

Ian Katz, Channel 4's Chief Content Officer, said in a statement: "The Piano is that rarest of things, a TV show that makes people feel better about the world after watching it than they did before.

"We are spreading a little of that musical magic by replacing the theme tunes of some of our best loved shows with specially recorded piano versions. Big thanks go out to the talented composers and performers who have made this happen and our production partners who are joining us in celebrating the return of The Piano."

Other shows that will tweak their music for the upcoming series also include Channel 4 News, Countdown and Come Dine With Me: The Professionals.
