The short clip for Parimatch puts 'The Notorious' in some strange situations

Conor McGregor has been ridiculed online after appearing in a very strange advert for a betting company. Check it out:

The former double weight UFC world champion appeared in an advert for Parimatch that really has to be seen to be believed.

To be quite honest, if you didn't already know that it was a sports betting commercial, it would be very difficult to guess exactly what product was being hawked until a decent way through the piece.

Conor can be seen as a pixelated figure beating up former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson (in animated form, obviously) as well as squaring up to a cat. There's also a room full of yellow flamingos for some reason... basically, it's a weird one.

Oh, and he dresses up as The Joker at one point. Slightly on the nose, don't you think?

Really, it's not as if 'The Notorious' is short of a couple of quid either, is it?

Anyway, between all the crocodiles, the gorillas with McGregor's signature tattoos and the bizarre voiceover (which seems to be reading slogans that don't really make sense), the point is made that we should gamble with Parimatch.

Parimatch is a betting company that might be more familiar to MMA (particularly UFC) fans, given the amount of cash it's spent trying to get fight fans to use it to gamble.

Announcing McGregor's ambassadorship with Parimatch in February, Sergey Portnov, the company's CEO, said: "Much like Parimatch, Conor McGregor dares to be different.

"He is a bold global icon that transcends sport. Conor will lift our brand to new heights. He is the ultimate ambassador for Parimatch."

On the same billing, McGregor himself wrote: "Parimatch has a fighter's spirit built into its culture. As soon as I met them, I could identify and relate to their values. I had no doubt that it was a brand that I wanted to bet my name on."

However, this latest ad has been met with widespread derision.

One Twitter user wrote: "Money has overtaken your heart, soul and drive. Chasing dreams turned to chasing paper. Would be good to see the old McGregor back."

A second person simply put: "G-A-R-B-A-G-E."

A third said: "Was this made for SNL?? Is this part of a trailer for a new Zoolander movie?? I don't care, I just had a great laugh with this bizarre piece of crap."

Anyway, given the truck load of cash that he presumably got for the 55-second clip, McGregor probably doesn't care what anyone else thinks.
