Daft Punk Have Announced Their Split

Legendary dance duo Daft Punk have split up, it has been announced.

The pair's publicist Kathryn Frazier confirmed the news to Pitchfork after a video was posted on to the band's YouTube channel:

The eight-minute-long clip - titled 'Epilogue' - shows the duo walking through a desert, donning their helmets and leather jackets.

The pair can be seen walking to be face-to-face (well, visor to visor) before one removes his Daft Punk embroidered jacket and reveals an energy pack on the back.

The other reaches out and touches a button on the pack. Uh-oh. The jacket-less member then walks away in the opposite direction before blowing up.

There has been no reason given for the break-up but many fans have expressed just how gutted they are that the band is no more.

Taking to social media, one person wrote: "Daft Punk have just announced they have officially called it quits after 28 years. Genuine sadness. These guys will be musical legends forever."

Another fan added: "Daft Punk 1993-2021. What an incredible influence they had in the world of music."

While a third commented: "Daft Punk is.... breaking up? It's truly the end of an era. I love you guys. Thank you for being an entrance and gateway for music for me."

An argument also broke out on Twitter after someone ill-advisedly claimed that the dance duo were one hit wonders.

In response, one fan said: "'Get Lucky' was their most popular song of course but they influenced and paved the way for electronic music. Electronic music typically isn't on the radio or pop charts though."

Another agreed: "The fact I was thinking of 'One More Time' or 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' or even 'Around the World' when I read the original point instead of 'Get Lucky' shows they're definitely not one hit wonders."

Many more expressed their excitement to see that a video had been dropped - only to then realise what was going on.

One said: "Everyone when seeing notification: YES THEY ARE BACK. Everyone after watching: straight up sadder than what they were."

Summing up the vibe, another person added: "I celebrated at first thinking they're back, and a wave of realisation hit me kinda hard."
