The Screen Actors Guild reportedly had to tighten up some of its rules regarding intimacy coordinators after details about a controversial sex scene were shared.

According to Deadline, intimacy coordinators could be dismissed if they do not maintain discretion about their work.

The movie follows a young woman (Ortega) who enters into a relationship with her much older teacher (Freeman), and the age difference between them caused some discussion, particularly an intimate scene with the 52-year-old and 21-year-old.

When it was released, Miller's Girl received mixed reviews from critics and didn't reach a wide audience at the box office.

Following the controversy over the movie, intimacy coordinator Kristina Arjona told the Daily Mail about working on Miller's Girl, and shared information on how some of the movie's more controversial scenes were made.

"There was many, many people throughout this process, engaging with [Jenna] to make sure that it was consistent with what she was comfortable with, and she was very determined and very sure of what she wanted to do," Arjona said.

Arjona added that both Ortega and Freeman were regularly checked on to make sure their were no boundaries being crossed.

According to Arjona, there was also a discussion over the 'level of nudity' and 'additional barriers' that would be in place for the intimate scenes.

However, as Deadline reports the SAG-AFTRA has said: “Intimacy coordinators are a crucial resource on any set to ensure the protection of our members working in intimate scenes.

“Intimacy coordinators should maintain the confidentiality of an actor’s work and experience in performing highly sensitive scenes unless they have the actor’s permission to publicly share this information.

“The public release of details about an actor’s scene work or confidences entrusted to the intimacy coordinator without the performer’s consent is unacceptable.”

According to Deadline, as part of the stricter rules, intimacy coordinators who do not adhere to the measures could be removed from SAG-AFTRA’s registry.

Freeman has previously spoken out about the controversial movie.

In a recent interview with The Times, the actor said he thought Miller's Girl had provided a 'grown up and nuanced' story.

"It's not saying, 'Isn't this great'," he said of the film, reminding some audiences that depiction doesn't mean endorsement.

Freeman said that 'stories about different subjects' could be 'tainted by association', saying: "And that's a shame. Are we gonna have a go at Liam Neeson for being in a film about the Holocaust?"

LADbible has contacted SAG-AFTRA and Kristina Arjona for comment.
