Victoria Beckham opens up for the first time ever about David's alleged 2003 affair

Victoria Beckham opens up for the first time ever about David's alleged 2003 affair

She described this period of their marriage as the 'unhappiest' moment of her life.

Victoria Beckham has opened up about the unhappiest moment in her marriage with David.

The two have been together since the mid-1990s and still command attention whenever they go anywhere.

However, they went through an incredibly difficult period in the early 2000s and they were both pushed to the brink.

David had been plagued by claims of an affair, which is something he has strenuously denied.

In a new Netflix documentary all about the couple, the Spice Girls star lifted the lid for the first time what it was like behind closed doors.

The year was 2003 and David had recently moved from the UK to Spain to play for Real Madrid.

It was a humungous change for the couple.

Victoria explained in the Netflix documentary: “It was the hardest period because it felt like the world was against us.

"Here’s the thing — we were against each other if I’m being completely honest.

“You know, up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other.

“But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either.

“And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare.

“It was an absolute circus — and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town right? Unless you’re in it.”

Posh admitted that she 'resented' David during this time and said it 'was the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life'.

But she dealt with the situation by internalising her pain because she wanted to support her husband's football career.

David also explained how difficult it was trying to keep his marriage alive when nearly every newspaper in the UK was reporting on his alleged affair.

“There was some horrible stories which were difficult to deal with," he said.

“It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.”

He added: "Every time that we woke up we felt, you know, there was something else and you know we felt that, we both felt at the time that we were not losing each other but drowning.

"But ultimately it’s our private life. There were some days I thought, ‘How am I going to go to work? How am I going to go on that training pitch and look as if nothing is wrong?’ I felt physically sick every day when I opened my eyes. How am I going to do this?”

Victoria admitted that doing the Netflix documentary has been beneficial for her.

“I probably didn’t realise until I started this, shall we call it, ‘therapy’, I feel at peace with a lot of what maybe in our first session [of interviews] was still a lot of pent-up anger, frustration...I understand it now," she said.

Docuseries director Fisher Stevens says it was tough asking the Beckhams about this part of their lives.

"It wasn't pleasant, but we got into it," Fisher explained to The Sunday Times.

"For me, I approached it as, 'How did your marriage stay together?' and you'll see how he responds."
