A Hitler lookalike who calls himself 'Harald Hitler' has been arrested in Austria.

The 25-year-old was spotted by authorities having his photograph taken outside the house in Braunau am Inn in which Adolf Hitler was born.

He was arrested on charges of glorifying the Nazi era, a crime in the country.

The lookalike had recently moved to the town on the German border and it is not believed by authorities to be a joke or a piece of performance art.

"The young man knows exactly what he is doing," the police spokesman David Furtner told the BBC.

The leader of the Nazi Party and Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 grew up in Austria before moving to Germany as a young man.

Hitler was born in a rented room on the top floor of the building on 20 April 1889.

During Nazi rule, the town drew in a wave of tourists who wished to see his birthplace.

Last October, the Austrian authorities decided to demolish Hitler's birthplace house to stop it becoming a focal point for neo-Nazis.
