A Zambian Woman Marries A Man 60 Years Older Than Her

Talk about an age difference! A Zambian woman called Charity Mumba has shocked the Internet by marrying a man 63 years older than her.

He's not just old enough to be her dad, he's old enough to be her granddad - and maybe even her great-granddad! South African Peter Grooves is 92-years-old and pictures of their wedding went viral in South Africa, calling Charity a "golddigger". Kind of ironic with a name like that.

Charity insists that Peter is the love of her life, but he is said to be stinking rich - although just quite how rich no one knows.

So far no word on how he feels about Charity - is he besides himself with joy or is he not sure what's happening? In their wedding snap, he does look a bit out of it...

In Zambia, 40 percent of girls are married by the age of 18, usually to much older men, but a 63 year old age difference is pretty unusual anywhere in the world.

Zambia is a very poor country with almost 70 percent of the population living below the poverty line, whereas South Africa is very rich in comparison. A lot of women move from Zambia to South Africa, like Charity did, in search of a better life.

It's not even the strangest marriage to come out of South Africa - that would go to Saniele Masilela and Helen Shabangu.

Nine-year-old Sanele Masilela is the youngest groom ever after - he married 62-year-old Helen Shabangu in South Africa - twice.

A lot of people were outraged that a child had got married to an adult, and it's pretty weird. Helen's own children are between 28 and 38 - so he's young enough to be her grandson.

"I told my mother that I wanted to get married because I really did want to. I'm happy that I married Helen - but I will go to school and study hard," said Saniele.

"When I'm older I will marry a lady my own age. I chose Helen because I love her and, although we don't live together all the time, we meet at the dumping site where my mother works regularly."

Ok that makes sense.

His dead ancestors (yep) apparently spoke to him and told him he had to "marry" Helen to please them. This involved his parents giving her a lot of money, which they were more than happy to do.

"If we hadn't done what my son had asked then something bad would have happened in the family," said his mum.

I'm pretty sure your nine-year-old marrying a woman in her 60s and giving them £1500 is pretty bad.
