Remember the Aussie fella who punched a kangaroo in its face to save his four-legged pal? Well, it turns out that he's a zookeeper and that his employers are now considering taking 'appropriate action' against him.

Greig Tonkins is an elephant keeper at Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, New South Wales, according to the Daily Mail and was out on wild pig hunt with a terminally ill friend when the kangaroo decided to grab his dog, Max, and put him in a headlock.

Speaking to the Daily Mail one of the guys who was on the trip, which took place last June, said that the punch was necessary to protect his dog and to stop the massive kangaroo from attacking anyone else.

"The dog wanted no part of it, all it was trying to do was escape from the roo and that's why he stepped in." Fair enough, the dog clearly did want no part in it. "There's people on social media saying, "I know men like that, I bet they killed it afterwards", but that's just ridiculous," he added.

The hunting trip was planned to help their friend Kailem, who had terminal cancer, catch a 'tonner', a wild pig which weighs over 100kg, which they did. Sadly, Kailem passed away last week.

The unnamed friend also claimed that the Australian reaction to it 'made him sick'. "The video went viral in America and there was not one bad comment, and then it goes crazy in Australia and there's a whole bunch of outrage.

"It made me sick to be part of this country when people were wishing this family man and dog died, when the kangaroo wasn't even hurt."
