A story claiming that Sylvester Stallone died after an overdose of prescription drugs has led to a massive outpouring of grief from fans of the legendary actor.

But if you're one of the thousands of people who have seen the story online, then don't worry, the Italian stallion is alive and well.

The link, which was made to look like it came from CNN, lead to an old story about Sly's son, Sage, who died in 2012.

Despite the fact that the hoax has been thoroughly debunked, fans are still sharing the story and expressing their sadness about the 'death'.

These 'news' stories pop up every now and again, and thanks to social media the stories are spread far and wide before the truth comes out. In the past articles claiming that Nicholas Cage, Vin Diesel and John Cena have died have all done the rounds.

The 70-year-old actor (the fake CNN image didn't even get his age right), is yet to comment on the bullshit rumours, but he has uploaded photos to his Instagram account since the 'news' broke.

Imagine being the sort of sad bastards who sits at home and makes this shit up? SMH.

And in homage to the legend, here's his greatest ever scene!
