Guy Builds Epic Tent To Live In While His House Is Built

Amazing.

At some point or another, we've all dreamed up some kind of masterplan to renovate our home.

The ideas of conversions, conservatories, a bar, a garden water feature and a big wall mounted tele with surround sound begin to flood your mind. But after a quick calculation of price and the effort required to make it all happen, you decide you're alright with your fridge, naff TV and an overgrown garden.

Still, you maintain that 'one day' you'll impress your friends with your creativity in your abode. Bryce Langston has managed to do just that, but in a rather unconventional way.

Part of the 'Tiny House Team', Bryce enjoys simplistic living arrangements, and so, while his house was being built, plans to live in a tent. It isn't just any old tent, though, where you have to piss about with poles, pegs and wake up in a puddle made up of a mixture of condensation, sweat, misery and regret.

It's a bit like that scene in Harry Potter when the Weasley's take scar head to the Qudditch World Cup and the tent turns out to be massive, despite being small on the outside. Luckily it doesn't have the cringey bollocks of the wizard kid saying "I love magic".

Inside the chap's Belle tent there is a big open space, where a double bed lies. Around the tent there is a dining table set for two, as well as a kitchen area with a sink and cooking utensils.

Further round the home is a relaxation area where there are books and a bean bag, and of course the ever-important kettle in order to brew up.

"Inside my tent I have everything that I need, and nothing that I don't. I have power which comes from a very simple 150watt solar system, running hot and cold water, refrigeration with a Waeco Coolfreeze 25 litre fridge," Bryce writes on Living Big In A Tiny House. "The tent itself is a 5 meter (16ft) diameter Lotus Belle Outback. The canvas is 350gsm, which is much heavier duty than regular canvas tents. Even the floor is constructed from the same material that many kayaks are made from."

He continues: "Keeping warm on the cooler nights is important and The Traveller Stove. At the moment, the Traveller Stove is also what I am using to do all of my cooking on. In the summer, I may find another solution for days when it's too hot to light the fire."

Obviously he needs a karzi, and it definitely can't be in the tent because the smell of shit really puts you off a pot noodle. Instead he's built an outhouse in a tiki-hut-style, which is accessible via a rope bridge which connects it to the tent. It's also got a stand up shower in there too.

More cool inventions

Slightly more extravagant, yet equally environmental, is Jono Williams' 'Skysphere'.

A perfect man cave, it was designed by Jono and is android controlled and completely powered by the sun. The awesome space also features bespoke furniture built especially for the tower, a wireless sound system, computer generated voice dialogs and a 360 degree viewing window.

I think we could all do with something like this, though I guess sitting on the PS4 playing FIFA with a few tinnies is equally as good.
