A 34-year-old woman has been jailed after she stabbed her partner because he ate all her chips.

Dianne Margaret Clayton, from Blackburn, was round at her mate's house with her boyfriend Simon Hill when an argument began over who had eaten all the chips.

The argument escalated and Clayton picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her partner in the shoulder.

Clayton appeared in court yesterday and pleaded guilty to assaulting Hill, causing actual bodily harm, and was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115.

According to the Daily Mail, Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said: "Simon Hill ate them all [the chips] and that caused her to get angry. She was seen to slap him across the face before leaving the room. She picked up a knife in the kitchen and then stabbed him, causing a superficial injury."

Richard Prew, defending, said that until that night the couple had "enjoyed a very supportive relationship" and that his client couldn't remember most of the incident due to her being drunk.
