Bill Gates Says Your Humanities Degree Is Worthless

Bill Gates Says Your Humanities Degree Is Worthless

What would he know?

If you don't have a degree in maths or any of the sciences, Bill Gates says you won't get a job in the future. Ohhhh, shit! The Independent brought us this wonderful news.

The tech billionaire has said that there are three types of degrees worth having: science, engineering and economics.

"I do think of basic knowledge of the sciences, math [apologies here, he may be rich but he can't educate his fellow American to say maths] skills, economics - a lot of careers in the future will be very demanding on those things.

"[It's] not necessarily that you'll be writing code, but you need to understand what can engineers do and what can they not do."

But 60 per cent of the UK's leaders, including MPs and CEOs of FTSE 100 companies have degrees in humanities... so maybe it's not as hopeless as Bill thinks it is for those of us with an arts' degree.

Many academics argue for the importance of arts degrees, maintaining that the world needs thinkers who understand how the world works and not just why. Kind of like TheLADbible really. The IT department can't actually write the articles, and they're banter is even worse than the writers. Yeah, seriously!

Students studying humanities have always been pitted against STEM students (science, technology, engineering and medicine) and Bill is only adding to an age old war.

I think we can all agree that science is cool. Engineering is amazing. And economics runs the world. But that doesn't mean that learning about all the other thousand things you could spend a university degree studying is worthless! Like how to down a pint of snakebite in under five seconds and how much it costs to get your mate to write your essay for you.

I think the answer is clear - we create robots to do run the world, do all the heavy lifting and machinery while we kickback and enjoy watching Netflix. That way everyone wins!
