The fight for the unified title of the super-middleweight division between Badou Jack and James DeGale may have finished a draw last night, but there was still definitely someone who lost.
The was the poor ref after getting a mean left hook from Jack.
Yep, the fight at New York's Barclay Center was a pretty memorable one for referee Arthur Mercante Jr and he has a nice shiner to remember it by.

When Jack threw his left hook out at the end of a round, Degale dodged it and it hit Arthur Mercante Jr instead!

Showing quick thinking, the Ripper grabbed him before Mercante Jr hit the floor and helped him get his balance back.
What did he do to you, eh?
He had a pretty nasty looking cut on his cheek, but after a few minutes, he bravely said he could go on refereeing.

It's not your average workplace injury, is it?
That wasn't the only drama at the match. DeGale lost a tooth! He was knocked down in the final round and at one point can be seen standing on his tooth - guess that's not going back in your gob then. But he doesn't seem particularly sad about it.

One judge scored the fight 114-112 in DeGale's favour, but the other two scored it even, 113-113 and both fighters called for a rematch. I think Mercante Jr will sit this one out.
