Check your privilege, readers - the world's most progressive baby has been born and the parents say there are more on the way.

The Ecuadorian couple, who made history last year when a transgender father fell pregnant by a transgender mother, have told the BBC they intend on extending their family.

Transgender man Fernando Machado fell pregnant by transgender woman Diane Rodriguez and gave birth to the couple's first child in June.

As neither Fernando nor Diane has had gender reassignment surgery, they were able to conceive a baby like any other couple - without the need for medical intervention.

They are the first transgender couple to fall pregnant in South America.

Speaking to the BBC, Ms Rodriguez said: "We don't have a name yet - or rather we do - we are just waiting to announce it."

In 2013 Ms Rodriguez became the first transgender candidate to run for congress in the country.

She said: "Being a mother was never something I thought I would do because I am a transsexual.

"The law before demanded that to be recognised as a woman you had to be castrated.
