Finally, a voice has emerged in American politics we can all believe in. Not from the murky benches of the Republicans or the Democrats, but from a place more celestial. This is a politician that speaks to us from the heavens.

Yes, let's make room for a new president some Americans are saying they would gladly choose over Hilary Clinton or Donald Trump.

Step forward Harambe.

"If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets. Everything passes. Nobody gets anything for keeps. And that's how we've got to live." - Haruki Murakami

5% of Americans who took part in recent polls have said they would gladly choose the deceased gorilla tragically killed at Cincinnati Zoo back in May to be their next President.

Overall 43% who took part in the survey said they would vote for Trump, 48% said Hillary and 5% said Harambe. Whilst 4% said they were undecided.

According to Public Policy Polling, his voters believe the gorilla would do a lot less damage to the country than other candidate.

This is yet another example of the gorilla capturing people's hearts and minds. Last week in a heart-warming ode to Harambe, a petition was started for him to be immortalised as a Pokémon. The petition currently has 60,000 signatures.

The petition read: "Harambe deserves to live on forever in our hearts. Support this petition if you want Harambe to become a Pokémon."

I for one, know that if I was given the choice of Harambe at the ballot box I would take it.

And given the number of people backing the gorilla, it's sad to think what he could have achieved were he still alive. But we can at least take solace in the fact his memory lives on, immortalised in memes.

RIP Harambe, a senseless death.
