Man With Massive Tumour On His Face Gets It Removed

An inspirational insight.

A man with a tumour pretty much the same size as his face has had it removed.

The appendage was so big that it actually blinded Kenyan born Mike Koech, but Spanish surgeon Pedro Cavadas has saved his life after operating on him, explaining that if it remained untreated, he would have "died miserably."

The tumour started as a small growth on his face which ballooned, getting so large that it distorted the shape of it. It was so big that surgeons both in Kenya and India were worried that operating could be detrimental and dangerous.

And this is where the amazing Spanish doctor comes in.

Pedro heard about the case through the Red Cross and flew Mike to his clinic in Valencia. After numerous operations, Mike has now had the growth removed.

The legendary surgeon said: "The size of the tumour scared doctors in India, and in that country there are good hospitals.

"He was at the limit of being operated, but the alternative for Mike was to die miserably and any option was better than that."

As if this gent couldn't be any more of a top lad, he also said:

"We could never remove his right eye because he would not be able to take care of his family.

"In addition, he is my friend and I made a pact with him, if we were not able to control the tumour, I would take care of his family."

Mike also lost both of his legs in a childhood accident, and his eye and part of his jaw could not be saved in the operation, but he is much healthier now after the procedure.

Mike has returned to Kenya to continue his job as a motorbike taxi driver. He recently had a daughter which he named Carmen, after Pedro's late mother.
