Fair banter.

Actor Alec Baldwin has said he will stop impersonating Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live if the president-elect releases his tax returns, so we can assume that he'll be playing The Donald for the foreseeable future.

This weekend's episode of NBC's comedy show began with Baldwin and Kate McKinnon impersonating Mr Trump and his aide Kellyanne Conway.

Baldwin's made the offer on Twitter after Trump sent a tweet critical of SNL and the 58-year-old's impersonation of him.

In the sketch, Donald repeatedly retweets posts made by a 16-year-old student against McKinnon's advice.

"Seth seems so cool," Baldwin's character says of the teenager.

"His Twitter bio says he wants to make America great again. It also says he loves the Anaheim Ducks."

The skit is a reference to Trump's retweet of a student named Seth, who criticised CNN for its coverage of the president-elect's 'voter fraud' claims.

The five-minute parody also had Trump retweeting random citizens during a national security briefing.

Responding to the sketch, Trump tweeted: "Just tried watching Saturday Night Live - unwatchable!

"Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse. Sad."

In response, Baldwin tweeted back: "Release your tax returns and I'll stop. Ha."

It is the third time Trump has publicly criticised Saturday Night Live and Baldwin's impersonation.

Trump was the first major-party US presidential nominee since Gerald Ford in 1976 not to make his tax returns public.

The Republican promised to reveal his records during his campaign to become president, but is yet to make them public.

Could this incentiveise him?
