George Bush Had A Hilarious Fight With A Poncho At Trump's Inauguration

So dumb.

Donald Trump was inaugurated yesterday, succeeding Barack Obama to become the 45th President of the United States.

But whilst the ceremony was taking place and Trump was busy quoting Batman super-villain Bane, another Republican president was catching the attention of television viewers worldwide.

Former President George W. Bush ended up making headlines, after struggling with a plastic rain poncho while trying to keep dry during President Donald Trump's address.

The epic battle between man and plastic ended up going viral, with social media users quickly turning the incident into a meme.

Viewers found humour elsewhere in the ceremony, when they pointed-out that new First Lady Melania Trump looked like a Harry Potter character about to take part in The Goblet of Fire's Tri-Wizard Tournament.

But with Trump attitudes towards climate change, LGBT rights and sexual assault leaving a lot to be desired, many watching agreed that they wanted to see more footage of Bush wrestling with his poncho instead of Trump being handed the keys to the White House.

During his time in office between 2001-2009 President George W. Bush was known for his hilarious bloopers, or 'Bushisms' as they came to be known.

Along with his misguided foreign policy in the Middle East, Bush's verbal slip-ups became a signature part of his time in office.

Speaking in Washington, D.C in 2004, the Texan once said: "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

On Sept. 17, 2002, President Bush took the podium in Nashville to speak before a group of schoolchildren, parents and teachers.

"There's an old saying in Tennessee," he began.

A series of awkward pauses followed. "I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee that says, 'Fool me once, shame on ... shame on you. Fool me... You can't get fooled again!'"

The correct rendering of the aphorism is: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

These slip-ups (or potentially Freudian slips depending on your political persuasion) saw him caricatured as a 'dumb' American by the British press during his time in office.

Still, many of the 65,845,063 who voted for Hillary would have preferred Bush to have been taking office yesterday.
