This Bank Holiday Weekend Could Be The Hottest Since Records Began

You working over the bank holiday weekend? Better get your excuses in now - or at least start devising them - because it looks set to be another record breaker.

If you're one of the millions who won't be at work this weekend, you'd better start staking out your spot in the beer garden like there's a royal wedding procession on its way past, because everywhere is sure to be heaving come Saturday afternoon.

The UK could be about to bask in temperatures of well above 30C, and it could even become the hottest late May bank holiday weekend for 70 years.

This is because a weather front from the Mediterranean is hanging about near us and making everything just great.

So far, this year we've seen the mercury hit 29.1 degrees on 19 April, but we could be set to go above that over the weekend.

We've already had the hottest Spring bank holiday on record and there is a good chance that we'll see more records tumble over the course of this one. That means you should put away those ripped jeans and get on a pair of shorts.

In fact, it could be even better than that. The good weather looks set to carry on through to the end of the month, unless there is some sort of drastic mistake, and that literally never happens - right?

There will be a couple of thunderstorms chucked in for good measure, but even that will be isolated to small areas, and it's good for your garden anyway.

As ever, the best of the weather is likely to be in southern and central England, but do not despair, because the rest of the UK is set to be fine too - just maybe not as hot as it will be down there.

In fact, it's going to be almost double the average temperature for this time of year in some places, according to a Met Office spokesperson, who said: "The average temperature for this time of year is 15C (59F).

"Currently, temperatures are averaging 20C (68F) and are only going to get warmer this weekend."

So, the magic number is 32.8 degrees Celsius. That's the previous record temperature set on 29 May 1944. Let's hope we can get close to that, at least.

Hell, if it's even 18 degrees the tops will be off and the barbecues out.
