Louis Theroux’s Next Documentary Will Focus On US President Donald Trump

This would be amazing!

British journalist Louis Theroux has tackled some hard-hitting subjects in his career, including Jimmy Savile, the Westboro Baptist Church, Nazis and of course the Church of Scientology.

But now he is turning his attention to the new US President, whom he calls, "something so abhorrent." He's not sitting on the fence.

Before Trump won the election, Theroux told ABC News Australia that he thought Trump had a good chance of winning, but that it would be a bad thing.

And now he's gone further, telling the Mirror:

"It feels like a whole cultural, almost sea change in how the world is part of the post- Brexit wave of populism. The story seems to change every day with Trump. There's something new bubbling under. It's hard to get your head around such a big subject."

The award-winning filmmaker added: "The challenge with Trump would be... something so abhorrent that walks on two legs and is a human being, you have to explore where his foibles come from."

The documentary is likely to look at the social precursors that led to the billionaire businessman becoming the leader of the free world.

One of those is Brexit.

Theroux said he wasn't confident Hillary Clinton could pull off a win following the UK's referendum last year.

He told ITV: "I think post-Brexit I was less complacent about the idea of a Hillary Clinton victory. I was aware of the phenomenon of a so-called shy Tory and that people say one thing in polls and then do another thing in the voting booth.

"You know as far as the whole Donald Trump phenomenon, it's such a vast subject I don't really know how to broach it."

"I don't think you can say anything that confidently at this point about where he's headed, whether he'll be impeached, whether he'll be re-elected, whether he'll be a one-term President."

The dual British and American citizen believes President Trump represents "the ugly side of the American personality yet at the same time there's a kind of weird, ineffable allure to his sheer chutzpah, his outrageousness."

Telling news.com.au, Louis said: "I oppose all his values but rather awfully and embarrassingly, there's a little part of me that can't help envying his unselfconsciousness and... total lack of self-doubt."

Louis is the king of asking the awkward questions so it would be interesting to see how he tackles Trump supporters and maybe even President Trump himself, if given the opportunity and not having fake news shouted in his face every 20 seconds.

Amnesty International says President Trump's "poisonous" rhetoric has made the world a darker place...

The human rights organisation has taken aim at the US President in its annual report, looking at 159 countries.

The group issued a statement in Paris, saying: "Donald Trump's poisonous campaign rhetoric exemplifies a global trend towards angrier and more divisive politics."

Amnesty says the world has become a "darker ... unstable place," with a rise in hate speech and hate crimes.

"The early indications from... Trump suggest a foreign policy that will significantly undermine multilateral cooperation and usher in a new era of greater instability and mutual suspicion."

This is in reference to the president's immigration executive order which effectively banned refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries, namely Libya, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen and Iran.

Protests have erupted across the UK over the president's upcoming state visit.

A group of cross-party MPs has called on Prime Minister Theresa May to revoke the invitation for Donald Trump to attend the UK later this year.

But Foreign Office Minister Sir Alan Duncan said Mr Trump's state visit to the UK "should happen and will happen."
