Former TV presenter Rolf Harris has said he will 'dead within a year' because prison is slowly killing him, it has been reported.

Eighty-six-year-old Harris, who is now facing a retrial for three sex offences plus one new charge, according to the Daily Star, has told his fellow inmates at HMP Stafford: "I will be dead within a year. If I get another jail sentence I will never see freedom again. It will be a death sentence."

Harris is currently inside on a five-year-and-nine-month sentence after being found guilty of 12 sex offences against four victims in 2014. He was due to be released on 18 July, however, the new charges and the retrial could result in an additional sentence of six years.

The source told the Daily Star that Harris now calls himself a dead man walking and has complained about how prison 'sucks the life out of you'.

He has pleaded not guilty to the new charge, which comes after he was cleared of three sexual assaults earlier this month. Jurors failed to return a verdict on four other counts. One of those four has since been dropped but the other three are set to be retried on 15 May.

Jurors took just under a week to find Harris not guilty of indecently assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 1977, as well as 'slobbering' over a blind woman and pinning a BBC worker against a wall and grabbing her.

Judge Alistair McCreath discharged the jury from deliberating on the other four counts last Wednesday and the Crown Prosecution Service was told it would have a week to request a retrial, which it did.

Harris appeared via a video link, while still at prison, during a short hearing last week.
