Last week Portuguese judges rules that Goncalo Amaral could publish his controversial book about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Today, the Daily Express has reported that Amaral is now writing another book about the case and is currently looking for a British publisher to pick it up, in another devastating blow to the McCanns.

His first book, The Truth of the Lie, almost resulted in his financial ruin after the McCann's sued him for libel and tried to stop the book being published in Portugal. However, in a new court hearing last week Portugal's Supreme Court ruled that his book, in which he alleges that Madeleine had died and her parents Kate and Gerry covered it up, could be sold in Portugal.

Amaral worked as the investigation co-ordinator when three-year-old Madeleine vanished from the Algarve holiday apartment the family were staying at in May 2007, working closely with senior officers.

He was moved off the case and resigned six months later after accusing British officers of not 'fully cooperating' with the Portuguese force.

According to the Daily Express, his second book will criticise the way Scotland Yard handled the case and he is currently finishing up the final chapters.

Back in 2005 Amaral was ordered to pay the McCanns €500,000 (£429,000) in compensation for the claims he made in his first book and a documentary.

The book was published in 2008, three days after police in Portugal closed their inquiry into the little girl's disappearance - clearing the McCanns of any wrongdoing.

In his defence, Amaral said that his claims came from the police investigation and that local media has already reported that the parents may have played a part in the disappearance.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help with Amaral's court costs and over £50,000 was raised.

Police closed the forensic investigation, called Operation Grange, of the disappearance in August last year. The investigation, which was set up by former PM David Cameron in 2011, cost £12 million, but sadly has not helped the police move the investigation forward.

A source close to the investigation told the Mirror: "There are no plans for any further forensic work to take place."

The McCanns have always said that they believe their daughter is alive and have vowed to never give up their search for her. They have also said they will sue if The Truth of the Lie is ever sold in the UK.
