Police officers probably thought they'd hit the jackpot when they caught Travis Lee Davis following his escape from custody.

But the 30-year-old fugitive slipped through the net a second time when he wriggled into the front seat of the police car (handcuffed) and drove away.

While Davis was on the loose following his escape from jail in Pettis County, Missouri, on Saturday, he allegedly kidnapped a woman who later reported the incident, according to ABC News.

Police were able to track him down and arrest him in an Oklahoma car park - nearly 350 miles away from the prison he managed to break out of - on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said that he then got off again after he slipped into the driver's seat of the cop car and sped off as officers stood outside the car interviewing the alleged victim.

Davis drove the police cruiser for around a mile before crashing.

Davis drove the car for around one to two miles before he crashed it into a tree and took off on foot. Officers believe he might have jumped on a train.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Heavener Police Department said: "It is possible that Davis escaped the area by trespassing on a freight train, however, people in the area should keep their doors locked and be watchful for strangers.

"Anyone driving in the area should not pick up any hitch hiker and should definitely report them to the Leflore County Sheriffs Office."

It is believed that the fugitive escaped from his prison cell at around 9:30pm on Saturday by climbing into the ceiling, shimmying across the rafters and squeezing through a hole into a closet.

From there he was able to walk right out of the jail doors and disappear.

In another statement to ABC News, the Pettis County Sheriff's Department said: "Davis climbed up into the ceiling of G Pod, across the rafters, through a maintenance access hole in the concrete wall, into a maintenance access closet, which lead to an exterior exit on the S. Lamine side of the jail and fled on foot."

Davis - who is considered to be dangerous - was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and grey pants. He also has several tattoos including an eye inside a triangle on the front of his neck.

According to police documentation, he was being held on a $110,000 (£82,700) bond for various charges which included kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, domestic assault, resisting arrest and parole violation.
