One of the victims of the Munich shootings is being hailed a 'hero' after he threw himself in front of the killer gunman to protect his twin sister from being shot, it has been reported.

According to The Telegraph, he is understood to be 19-year-old Huseyin Dayicik, who came to Munich from Greece.

Thew newspaper also reported that a freelance journalist told BBC 5 Live the man was shot twice outside the McDonald's where the horror unfolded on Friday night.

He is said to have pushed his twin sister out of the way as the gunman opened fire.

I can't begin to imagine how terrified he must have been but his quick-thinking actions in that moment incredibly saved his sister's life.

At least nine people were killed and a total of 21 people, including children, were taken to hospital with injuries.

The 18-year-old gunman has been named as Ali Sonboly. He reportedly carried out the sickening attack in revenge for years of bullying.

Police, who initially thought they were looking for three attackers, say they found a man who had killed himself on a side street near Olympia shopping mall, which transpired to be the murderer, reported by local media as Aly Sonboly.

Our thoughts are with the people of Munich.
