Four people have been confirmed dead after an accident on a ride at Dreamworld theme park in Australia.

It's believed two men and two women, aged between 32 to early 40s, died when a raft on the Thunder River Rapids flipped over, trapping two people underneath.

The raft was carrying six passengers when the accident happened and Dreamworld has since been evacuated. The other two passengers are believed to have escaped with no injuries.

Emergency services were called to the park at 2.17pm, local time (5.17am BST) and confirmed the deaths.

The theme park released a statement earlier saying that it was, "working as quickly as possible to establish the facts around the incident and is working closely with emergency authorities and police to do this."

The Thunder Rapid Ride travels at up to 28mph and has been at Dreamworld since 1986.
