Imagine hopping in the car and going for a nice drive, only to be attacked by machete-wielding masked men - well that's exactly the terrifying situation one American couple faced last week.
Bryant and Lauren Swenson were driving in Mai Mahiu when they were attacked by the gang of bandits and captured the moment on video.

In a Facebook post, Bryant says it seemed like the men were going to attempt to rob a white van on the road and that one man even had a gun but, luckily, couldn't get it out in time.
In the video you see the masked men running towards the car, machete's in hand, while Bryant thinks quick in order to reverse the car which gave him time to roll his car windows up.
With the windows up, he sped the car forward and managed to manoeuvre past the bandits as they waved their knives.

In the footage you can hear Lauren say: "Are they still behind us?"
A passenger in the back seat confirms the men are still after them.
Towards the end of the video, the bandits can be heard exchanging in gunfire with the police.
In the social media post, Bryant added that he believes they were saved by 'quick thinking and the grace of God'.

He posted: "Our fitness can prepare us for life, but there are times when things happen so fast that we can only give credit to God for his protection. We came upon three bandits robbing a matatu (the white van).
"I had to back up long enough to roll my window up before passing by the guy wielding the ponga (machete.) The guy on the far left had a handgun but couldn't get it out of his waistbelt in time.
"They chose this spot for ambush because the road is very rough, but fortunately we were in my 80 series. Also thankful for a manual transmission. Just before encountering the bandits, we passed two armed police on foot.

"The gunfire you hear at the end of the video are the cops engaging. We are thankful to have been gone before the gun battle erupted."
The couple only moved to Nairobi with their three children to follow their passions and open a CrossFit gym - they probably didn't ever imagine this would happen.
