Couple Criticised Online For Turning Their House Into A 'B&Q Warehouse'

They painted it orange and grey, basically

A couple who appeared on Channel 4's Ugly House to Lovely House have been taking quite a bit of stick for turning their house into a 'B&Q warehouse'.

Obviously, people on the Internet don't need a reason to be cruel, but after Armin and Amifa's house in Bellingham, London, was shown on the TV show people have been going in.

In a nutshell, the couple wanted to turn their 1920s house - which could have used a lick of paint to say the least - into somewhere a little bit nicer for their family to live in for years to come.

Unfortunately, there is no accounting for taste, and they painted it dark grey and orange, hence the comparisons to a B&Q warehouse. Oh, and they put corrugated metal cladding onto the back of it.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, some people (who we presume must be qualified architects and design gurus) think that their use of orange windows is just a wee bit over the top. However, the couple think that they spent their budget wisely.

They had £80,000 ($105,500) with which to renovate their home, and they certainly made a difference. For better or worse, the house is almost unrecognisable now.

When choosing the colours, Amifa said: "I'd go orange if I could, looks beautiful to me.

"I don't want to offend the neighbours, I don't want to annoy people. I'm not saying I'd do all the windows that colour, I'd probably do the smallest one just to pop out at you."

Well, it definitely 'pops out at you'.

Of course, they went right ahead and did all the windows that colour. Each to their own, right?

Once the big reveal was made, viewers were quick to criticise the decisions made. That's not like people, is it?

More than one person compared the house to a branch of B&Q, while another said that it was an 'eyesore'. In short, lots of people said that they had actually made the house uglier than it was beforehand.

Here's the back now.

One person said: "Oh dear. An unfortunate exemplar. These types of 'design' (orange frames, corrugated cladding) will date and go out of fashion very quickly, leaving a dreadful eyesore on the street."

Another added: "Genuinely feel sorry the next door neighbours. That house isn't ugly anymore. It's horrible. An eyesore. Hanging!"

If you want to join in the fun and drag some people trying to improve their house through the court of public opinion, Ugly House to Lovely House is on Channel 4 on Thursdays.
