Ariana Grande has become the most followed woman on Instagram, climbing above Selena Gomez and even further ahead of you.

The 25-year-old singer has a mahoosive 146,311,467 followers, eclipsing Selena Gomez who has a pitiful 146,274,798 followers, according to Billboard... though by the time you read this article, both those followings will have no doubt grown further.

Grande is now the second most followed human on Instagram after Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 155,894,992 followers. However, given the rate of growth of the singer's Instagram following, she could soon surpass the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

In just the past four months, Grande has amassed an additional 13 million followers. This is in large part due to how busy the singer has been of late.

In August she released her fourth studio album, Sweetener, and earlier this month she followed it up with her fifth, Thank U, Next. Off the back of these albums, she will be embarking on a world tour in March, aptly named, the 'Sweetener/Thank U, Next' tour. So don't be surprised to see her following surge further.

Her popularity on the social media platform has also been helped by the fact she is very active on the site, sharing regular posts and stories. By contrast, the former queen of Instagram, Gomez, has taken a hiatus from Insta of late, only posting on a few occasions since September.

She announced that she would be taking some time out in a post that read: "Update: taking a social media break. Again. As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given.

"Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember - negative comments can hurt anybody's feelings. Obvi."

So there you go, even the former most-followed woman on Instagram can clearly find the platform a bit dispiriting at times, so remember not to get sucked into giving too much of a shit about what other people think of you.

It was announced yesterday that the newly crowned queen of Instagram will be returning to Manchester in August to headline the city's Pride festival. The Grammy and BRIT Award winner will play the LGBT+ event at Mayfield on Sunday 25 August.

The singer holds a special place in the hearts of Mancunians following her response to the Manchester Arena bombing at her concert on 22 May 2017. In the aftermath of the attack, she held a benefit concert in the city in aid of the families affected by the bombing, which killed 22 people.
