How does this even happen?

We've all got stories to tell from various nights out and binges over the years, but this one takes the biscuit.

Joakim Robin Berggren, the man who sparked a terror alert in Barcelona recently, was apparently in the aftermath of a 24-hour sesh, during which he spent £16,000 on drinks, drugs and prostitutes.

The 32-year-old Swede was allegedly caught driving a stolen truck full of gas containers, leading police on a two mile chase, the Daily Mail reports.

It's an odd way to try and shift a hangover, but apparently this seemed more preferable to lying in bed and watching a Friends boxset after spending thousands with a mate on a night out.

The truck he'd stolen was shot several times by police, according to reports, which lead him to stop and be arrested. He's been previously arrested for possession of drugs and drink-driving in his native Sweden, Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia said.

His mate, who was thought to be by his side for the entirety of the night of debauchery, has allegedly already left Spain after the incident.

The two pals landed in Barcelona after flying from Russia on Monday, with Berggren's hangover antics ending at around 10.30am on Tuesday. Their original plan was to travel to Spain's capital, Madrid, but that's obviously been put on the back-burner, for now.

"His stay in Barcelona opened up new possibilities of nightlife, of enjoying a different day and he decided to stay and spend the night in Barcelona," Interior Minister Jordi Jane said. "We are dealing with an individual whose state of mind was affected by his night out and wanted to drive any vehicle he could find at the time.

"He tried but failed to get his hands on a motorbike, and finally the truck with the gas bottles on it which he could easily take because the keys were in the ignition and the door was open."

Berggren is now allegedly being held in the psychiatric unit at Barcelona's Hospital del Mar.
