Irish Lads End Up Watching Fight Against ISIS On The Front Line After Drunken Night

Not what you want with a hangover.

A lot of obstacles can befall you during or after a drinking session. Sometimes it's as simple as trying to get the key in the door following copious amounts of drink; other times it's a bit more complicated, like ending up in Paris after discovering cheap flight deals on Groupon. Or... having to fight ISIS on a hangover.

Okay, the last one if a bit far-fetched but, after a few whiskeys, who knows what can happen?

For William Meara and Craig Reynolds, drunkenly stumbling head first into an Iraqi battlefield where rebel groups attempt to topple the terror group became a reality.

The Irish pals were backpacking around the Middle East, which is a brave activity in itself given the current circumstances, and ended up befriending a Canadian soldier.

Striking up what you'd assume was a comfortable first impression, the Canadian invited William and Craig to have some drinks with him, and they ended up having whiskey and talking the night away, 'bottle after bottle, shot after shot and glass after glass'.

The following morning, presumably slightly light-headed, the freedom fighter tried to get the duo to join the rebel group of the Peshmerga on the front line.

"We must have said something when we were out with him the night before and that's how he got the idea," William told the Irish Independent. The pair didn't really anticipate what was to follow. They were given Peshmerga uniforms, taken to the Daquq district and were introduced to the group's top soldiers.

"Before we knew it we were meeting all of these high-profile officials," William said. "There was a commander of the local area with us.

"It was absolutely terrifying, to be honest. It was probably one of the scariest things I've ever done."

In the original blog post for Ready for Road, William wrote that he and Craig actually agreed to joining the fight against ISIS at 4am, after vowing to 'never shy away from a unique experience of the road'.

Well, they certainly got an experience. Luckily the pair made it out alive, which not everyone is so fortunate to do.

The Peshmerga are currently fighting to protect the Iraqi region of Kurdistan, as ISIS forces are stationed throughout the region.

To help those protecting people from ISIS and those in refugee camps, the pair are admirably raising funds to help buy supplies for the people living in a camp just outside of Erbil, Iraq.
