In a truly heartbreaking turn of events, professional baseball player Jose Fernandez revealed that he and his girlfriend were expecting their first child just days before his death.
The Miami Marlins pitcher tragically died on Sunday after a boat he was on crashed into a jetty on Miami beach, according to police.
Shortly before the boat crash, which also claimed the life of two others, the 24-year-old posted a heartfelt Instagram post saying how excited he was for the birth of his child.
The boat that Jose was on board was found capsized on Sunday at 3am just off Miami beach, and America's athletes were quick to pay tribute to the young star.

"When you watch kids play Little League or something like that, that's the joy Jose played with and the passion he felt while playing," said Marlins coach Don Mattingly.
Jose made his way over to America when he was a teenager, escaping Cuba on a boat in 2007 with his mother after three previous failed attempts.
